Baroque Trio

Flute, oboe and harpsichord (1962)

Fast, almost mechanical – Slow, with rigid continuity – fast and rhythmic

The Baroque Trio was written for the Oriel Trio - Betty Mills (flute), John Wood (oboe) and Barbara Hill (harpsichord and they gave the first performance at the College of St Mark and St John on 27 November 1963.

At the time I was engaged in teaching traditional harmony and hoped there might be ways of reviving some of its materials in a new piece. Performance with piano not permitted.
